While September and
October are typically associated with apple picking, pumpkin farms, corn mazes
and other fall fun, it is also the season of Oktoberfests.
The town
of Haymarket, located in Northern Virginia, is getting ready to hold its annual Oktoberfest. Now in its 4th
year, this year's fun sounds similar to its 2nd annual festival (which I attended --
hoping to get down that way again this year!)
According to promoters of the event, the day promises "German
Fare, bands and atmosphere". The fair is held on Washington Street and is definitely
a family-friendly event. There will be fun activities for the kids, a
Biergarten and dozens of vendors selling
their products/services. Chances are there will probably be trick or treating available too.
The festival will
run on Oct. 18, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It appears the food will once again be provided by Foster's Grille, who will be cooking up the brats. In 2012, that line was long!

Haymarket, which was founded in 1799 and has links to
Civil War history, is located in Prince William County, about 20 to 30 minutes from western
Fairfax County and just off I-66.
